And there she goes...
whizzing through books as if there were no tomorrow.
I think that
Ulysses was the equivalent of prunes to the reading person. Now that I have finished it, I just can't stop reading. I read
Holes today. Recommended. I like. Now I am moving on to
Madame Bovary, a book which I have been unreasonably scared of for some years. We shall see.
The boss is still being a complete twat. Praise the lord for team move in January. Before I brain him. The simplest elements of management (like, if you know one of your staff is leaving, make a plan to replace them - pregnancy waits for no man) have eluded him. When told that he really should be planning a year in advance, he looks like a rabbit in the headlights. He is truly, truly shit.
Coo
Have managed to read both
The Great Gatsby and
Noughts and Crosses over the weekend. So am feeling rather proud of self.
Went for lunch with friend yesterday; how does lunch always manage to stretch to a few bottles of wine, and 6pm?
Mysteries of the world.
Phew-ee!
I have finished
Ulysses!!!!! What a marathon. It has taken some time, as anyone can read below, and I have not posted for some time because of the shame of still being in the middle of it. I think I can honestly say that I will never willingly read it again. This is not, I hasten to add, because it is not a good book. It is. But I did not enjoy it at all.
So, the news since July 18th - the last time I blogged (gosh, over a month ago - how lax!)...
A few weeks ago I met up with Jane. We worked out that we last saw each other 18 years ago. It was made the more weird because her father is with the mother of another old friend, and we met in the house which is two doors down form the house in which I grew up. But it was very, very nice to see Jane again. And it was lovely to have so much to talk about. Sometimes when you meet someone you've been good friends with again, and you haven't seen each other for a while, you seem to run out of things to say. But we didn't. And that's cool.
I've also secured my move, and I'll start work in my new team after Christmas. It will seem very strange after nearly 4 years (by that time) in my present job, to go to a completely new area, and have to learn lots and lots of things. But life is a challenge, and I'm really looking forward to it.
And I've been made Vice-Chair of
LOFT. I think that just consists of making the Chair do things he doesn't want to do, and writing a few letters. But time will tell...
